Mardi Gras World Guide
Behind the Mask: Experience the Magic of Mardi Gras Year-Round Guide
Step into a world of vibrant colors, larger-than-life figures, and the intoxicating spirit of Mardi Gras at Mardi Gras World! This unique attraction offers a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the spectacular floats that parade through the streets of New Orleans during the annual Carnival celebration. Prepare to be amazed by the sheer scale and artistry involved in bringing these fantastical creations to life. Mardi Gras World was founded in 1947 by Blaine Kern Sr., who started building floats in his backyard. Over the years, the company grew to become the largest float-building organization in the world. The warehouse is filled with floats from past Mardi Gras celebrations, as well as floats being built for upcoming parades. You'll learn about the history of Mardi Gras, the different krewes (organizations that put on parades), and the techniques used to create the elaborate floats. A visit to Mardi Gras World is an immersive experience. You can take a guided tour of the warehouse, where you'll see artists at work sculpting, painting, and assembling the floats. You'll also have the opportunity to try on costumes, take photos with the floats, and even sample king cake, a traditional Mardi Gras treat. It's a fun and festive way to experience the magic of Mardi Gras any time of year. New Orleans is also famous for its unique culinary tradition, including gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets.
